Happy Spring, Product People!
Hello everybody,
I hope the beginning of Spring is treating you all well 🌼
Last month was a little slow for me on account of life stuff (all good things!) - but I did tap into some important topics, each somewhat on opposite ends of the spectrum: CPOs and basic product management terminology.
Why feature-oriented CPOs fall behind — and what to do about it
As a Chief Product Officer (CPO), you are responsible for creating value by changing user behavior and maximizing returns from your product portfolio.
“Changing user behaviour” you say? Yes! All products change behaviour and impact lives, whether we are willing to admit it or not. Ethics is a huge chunk of what we should be thinking about when building products — yet CPOs are often measured by how fast their team releases, not by the value those features are providing.
Roadmaps vs Backlogs — What’s The Difference?
This nugget came about from a Twitter thread. You would think all PMs know what these things are, but I was surprised to see that many still treat their backlog and roadmaps as interchangeable items.
How to align your roadmap to your product strategy
An oldie but a goodie.
Team members can often have different views about the best way forward. I’m pretty sure you’ve all experienced this: a situation where you start a vision, a set of goals, and some high level ideas. Yet somehow, everyone’s got a slightly different view about how things should be approached. And if you don’t have your team aligned, or your strategy aligned — how on earth will you have your roadmap aligned?
As always, please do leave feedback - I would love to hear from you!
